After multiple ankle monitor system violations, a judge raised the bail of Harvey Weinstein from $1 million to $5 million. The defense claimed the missing lapses in ankle monitoring were due to technical issues, but the prosecution argued that Weinstein was “panicking” and was intentionally trying to evade detection. The violations totaled 57 in less than two months.
Weinstein was using a walker when he arrived at court, which is needed after he sustained injuries in a car accident last August. Weinstein is scheduled for back surgery on Thursday, but his attorneys said there would be no need to push back his trial—scheduled to take place on January 6th.
