Mitchell Tenpenny celebrated his very first Number One hit, "Drunk Me," with a party at a Nashville area restaurant and bar yesterday (Monday, February 11th) afternoon. Mitchell gathered with his co-writers, Justin Wilson and Jordan Schmidt, to toast to their success.

Initially, Mitchell thought the song would get cut by another artist, but he tells us he took the opportunity to record, albeit at a higher range than he is used to. ["At the end of that song, I thought it was a no-brainer. I was like, 'We're gonna get a cut on this. Somebody's gonna cut this song.' When it came down to make a record I had the opportunity that song just kept staying around and it kept being there. I was nervous to cut it but Jordan pushed me. We sung it in a key that was at the top of my range, but when I heard it back the first time I said, 'This is what I want to come out with and this is something I feel is different, something important to say.' Now that I've had to sing it nine billion times it's a little hard on the vocal cords but it's . . . I don't know. Just what a naive thing to do and sometimes the stars line up."] SOUNDCUE (:34 OC: . . . stars line up.)

Mitchell's new single is called "Alcohol You Later." He shot the video for it last week, which he says will be released very soon.
